About the program

What is Give a Crock?

Give a Crock is a charitable program model any community organization can run: teach kids to cook, send every student home with a slow cooker of their own, and fill it with ingredients. International Friendship Center runs the program here in Highlands, North Carolina.

A slow cooker to keep

Every student who joins a class goes home with their own slow cooker. Not borrowed — theirs.

Ingredients included

Kits with everything a first recipe needs, so the first meal happens this week, not someday.

6 weeks of cooking classes

From knife skills to improvising without a recipe — live classes plus a free online course.

Where it started

Give a Crock began as a service project of the MountainTop Rotary Club of Highlands, North Carolina — built on a simple observation: a slow cooker is the most forgiving way to learn to cook, and the most affordable way to put real meals on a family's table. What started as one club's project is now a free platform any community organization can use.
